Ramona has always been a farming and ranching community. Turkey and chicken ranches were located throughout the valley, however, through the years, popular crops raised in the valley included hay, oats, apples, citrus, avocados and Christmas trees.

Today's ranching community has focused on horses. Ramona's favorable year-round climate provides an ideal setting for thousands of privately owned horses in and around the valley. Winter and summer averages range between 60 and 90 degrees. Elevation is approximately 1500 feet and the Ramona corridor is located approximately 36 miles from San Diego.

There are numerous ranches that call Ramona and vicinity home. They range from the well-known thoroughbred farms like Golden Eagle, to performance, sport horse, endurance farms and facilities throughout the basin. There is a multitude of year-round equestrian activity: sorting, penning, roping, hunter/jumper and competitive driving events, equitation, dressage, endurance, gymkhana, polo and more. If it's not happening in Ramona, Warner Springs, Anza, Lakeside, Del Mar, Cuyamaca, etc are all within a short trailer ride away.

The "Valley of the Sun" is home to everything from Warmbloods to Minis. There are many areas to saddle up and take a leisurely stroll into open sagebrush trails, where you can still see buffalo, llamas, and (yes, even) camels peacefully grazing in open meadows.

Ramona and its surrounding communities offer a myriad of activities for 4H-ers, Future Farmers of America, Pony Clubbers, Scouts and more. There are several well-renowned horse trainers in the community; whether 3-day eventing or weekend warrior, it can all be found in this Valley.
